Privacy Notice

This notice describes information handled when someone visits Hampton County Released Inmates, sends a message, or uses an embedded search service. It also explains the roles of cookies, analytics, advertising, outside links, and search partners. Official Hampton, court, jail, and corrections portals have their own policies.

Information You Submit

A name, location, or other term entered in a search box is sent to the independent provider that powers that tool. This site does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s terms and privacy policy govern its handling after submission.

If you send an email or contact message, we keep the message and return details as needed to answer. Messages are not shared outside the organization unless doing so is required by law or a valid legal order.

Automatic Technical Data

Like most websites, server, analytics, and advertising systems may receive routine data when a page loads. That data can include:

  • Internet Protocol address
  • Browser name and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • Pages viewed and time spent
  • Referring page or site
  • Date and time stamps

Cookies and similar storage help measure site use and support some features. Browser settings can reject cookies, though a blocked cookie may change how a feature works.

Reasons Data Is Used

Collected data helps operate and secure the site, send a search to the provider selected by the visitor, understand which pages are useful, diagnose errors, improve speed, answer messages, and display advertising that may reflect broad interests. We do not use technical logs to alter an official City of Hampton, VADOC, court, BOP, or ICE record.

Outside Sites and Advertising

Links lead to Hampton release-record pages, sheriff and corrections offices, Virginia government portals, federal locators, and third-party tools. Once a visitor follows a link, that destination’s privacy policy controls. Some advertising partners may recognize activity across different sites for interest-based ads. That tracking occurs through their systems, not an official Hampton database.

Who May Receive Data

Personal information is not sold as a standalone list. Depending on the action taken, information may reach:

  • A search partner processing the query submitted to its tool
  • An analytics service measuring visits and performance
  • An advertising network delivering or measuring ads
  • A service provider supporting site operations
  • Law enforcement or another government body acting under a valid legal order

Security Measures

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service, email system, or storage method can be guaranteed breach-proof. Avoid sending sensitive identifiers that are not needed for a question.

Visitors Under Eighteen

This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contact Us page to request its deletion.

Your Privacy Choices

Subject to applicable law and the data actually held, a person may ask for a copy, correction, or deletion of personal information and may object to or opt out of certain processing. Requests need enough detail to identify the relevant message or record. Virginia FOIA, Va. Code §§ 2.2-3700 through 2.2-3715, governs access to public-body records but does not turn this private site into a government record custodian.

Changes to This Notice

This privacy notice may change as services or legal requirements change. A revised version takes effect when posted here with its new effective date. Effective August 8, 2026.
